Everest Base Camp (6)

Highlights: Arriving at EBC (Everest Base Camp today 5,364m).

Day07 (12 October 2009) -- The journey continues (start from Lobuche):

Today is the most important day in this trekking trip. The group started early at 6:30 a.m. (one hour earlier than the normal 7:30 a.m. start time). The plan is to arrive at Gorak Shep (5,140m), the final station/lodge early; have meal and then continue to EBC which takes about 5 hours (and return to lodge).

Good art-work that can withstand the wind and snow

Yeah! Gorak Shep (5,140m) is within sight now ... Fiona

The clouds are so low that we can almost touch them ... Siti and Ikhwan. Notice that the lodges are just located next to the glacier/barren land

Look! Look! On the horizon ... Fiona and Alexis

Arriving at Gorak Shep, the final or highest lodge along the EBC trek

The brown hill is the Kalapatha hill with path leading to the peak. The group shall trek up this hill the following day (after EBC) ... Alexis

After a light noodle lunch, the group continues the journey to EBC (that will take another 5 hours to return). Fiona showing her familiar and encouraging acknowledgement.

The majestic ice-capped mountains and the enthusiastic trekkers

Stunningly deep blue sky, white ice-capped mountains, low-lying clouds, the rocks and the uphill climb ... what an experience !!

The peak in the middle (with arrow pointing) is Mount Everest (8,850m) which is about 10km further away. On the right of photo is Lhotse (8,414m).

Finally, after seven (7) full days of trekking, we arrive at the location of EBC (Everest Base Camp 5,364m)

Tough it is just a simple structure, it is a good feeling able to trek thus far and high up at this elevation

Mission Accomplished !!
