Early CNY Hoi Kung at Apik Hill

Group outing at Apik Hill Cheras on chor 3 of Chinese New Year, 30 Jan 2017 … It was an early hoi kung (start work) trekking for the auspicious CNY. That morning, there were not many trekkers, possibly still enjoying the Chinese New Year holidays.

The group started from the usual Cheras Awana side, hiked up to Station 6 and continued to Saga hilltop, then traversed to the waterfall and returned via Station 5 for a round trip of about 4 hr 15 minutes.

When we adjourned for lunch at the usual Mama and Son pan mee, it was still closed; so was the restaurant next door which sells delicious kon loh mee. All Chinese restaurants and coffee shops in that area were closed too. We finally have to settle the lunch with mamak food instead.

It was an enjoyable outing with the trekker friends together considering that we were still in Chinese New Year mood.

Spring Festival Luncheon

PSZQM Zhineng Qigong 2017 annual spring festival luncheon gathering at Dynasty Dragon Seafood Restaurant, Summit USJ on Sunday, 15 January 2017. The event was organized by USJ/Subang Jaya Centres.

It was an afternoon of great fun with good food, singing, dance and performances amid good camaraderie. Other than having an entertaining master of ceremony, the occasion was further liven up with the presence of the God of Prosperity, Choy San Yeh, who went round every table to distribute ang pow. There were many prizes for the lucky draws and the most attention-grabbing item was the grand prize – a 43-inch TV.

Ketam Food Outing on New Year's Eve

This is a different type of outing. It has nothing to do with the usual trekking or trail running in the mountains – we only have to work the stomach. The gastronomic delights trip at Klang and Pulau Ketam on 31 Dec 2016 was organized by Hooi Miin and SC Yong.

 The golden ketam (crab)

The group arrived at a famous bak kut teh restaurant in Klang at 9:30 a.m. After a delicious and delightful breakfast, we proceeded to Port Klang; then took a ferry from South Port Terminal to Pulau Ketam for a journey of 35 minutes.
Yeah! We are heading to the correct destination

Built above the water on piles, the restaurants and shops are lined on both sides of the walkway. We strolled around the areas shopping for local produces and visiting the stilt houses until it started to drizzle. We have our seafood lunch at 1:30 p.m. followed by coffee time, in time to catch the 4:00 p.m. ferry back to Port Klang. For a change, it was nice and fun going out with trekker friends for a different experience.

A word of caution: Do not park your cars by the side of the wide road marked with white line in front of South Port Terminal, Port Klang. Seemingly devoid of traffic and presence of other cars parked there, we followed suit. We received parking summons issued at 3:30 p.m. on a Saturday by the traffic police. On a positive note, our cars are safe from theft as there was enforcement. The fine: RM300 with early-bird cheaper rate.

This is rainy season but there is no water here for the boat to sail to the sea
